New Parks Cruising Association

RYA

About us

New Parks Cruising Association is a club for people interested in sailing and motor boating. Originally founded for past students of RYA courses once held as evening classes at the New Parks College in Leicester. Membership is open to all, not just those who own boats. Most of our Members live in the Leicestershire area, but we do have some in other parts of the country and overseas.

The objectives of the Association

  • To provide the opportunity for Members to participate in sailing and power boating.
  • To encourage Members to gain practical experience of sailing and power vessels at sea and on inland waterways.
  • To organise functions and lectures on all aspects of boating to promote the opportunity for Members to increase their knowledge and proficiency.

What we do

Talks

The Association organise monthly talks from September to April. They cover a wide variety of subjects, many with a nautical theme. The talks are a mix of ‘live’, held at The Royal Oak, 35 Main Street, Kirby Muxloe, Leicester, LE9 2AN and ‘virtual’ by Zoom. All talks are held on the third Tuesday in the month, starting at 7:30pm and finishing around 9:00pm. The room and bar of the Royal Oak are open from 7:00pm. Guests are welcome at the Royal Oak. Please come along and meet us.

Rallies

Throughout the year we organise a series of sailing rallies on the Solent and motor boating rallies on the Norfolk Broads. For a small fee, members friends and families can participate at these events.

Commodore’s Lunch

Once a year we hold a meal at a venue in Leicestershire which gives our active sailing members and those retired from the sport an opportunity to meet. Members may bring guests to this event, so bring your family.

Magazine

Every couple of years we produce a digital magazine called Broad Reach filled with articles written by our members. The magazine is free to everyone, not just members. The last 11 issues can be read here on this website.
